Kyle Chapman, Leader of this rally
When I first saw this article, I was amused by their movement: who gave them the power to decide what people should stay in this country and what people should get kicked out? And then I felt disappointment: after so many years of colonisation and immigration waves , racism is still a serious issue in this nation. After John Key's statement about there was no seat for Maori in super city, this massive rally can be seen as another significant ethnic diversity issue in new Auckland.

As 2006 census indicates that, there are 18.8% of the total population in Auckland is Asian, which means that it is the second largest ethnic group (the first one is European) within the region. Like other ethnic groups, Asian make great contributions to business development and labour supply of the market. They bring wealth of talent, experience and international connections to the city and the nation. They play a significant role in New Zealand's economic growth. However, past evidence also suggest that, these immigrants have difficulties adopting and feeling accepted by the society: they cannot always find jobs or jobs matching their skills and experiences. Racism is believed to be a major reason.
As a member of the Asian community in Auckland, I feel so sad for our people: why can't we get what we deserved? Just like Maori, Pacific Islanders, and European, Asian is also a part of kiwi. Most of us have been lived in this land for quite long time, and already have several generations. Despite of the cultural identity, Asian are as same as those people from the rally, they are both New Zealanders and Aucklanders, there is no differences between them.
Along with the increase of population in Auckland, new immigrant population will be increased as well. By 2016, Asian poulation will hit 34%, about a third of the total population in the region. Their interests are essential to be taken into account when the Governemt making plan for making Auckland a successfully diverse and socially connected place.
